5 Household Habits

Do you ever feel like the housework is just never ending? For working homeowners and even stay at home parents, maintaining an orderly house can just be overwhelming, but today. We are going to discuss five habits you can create to help keep a nice, tidy home in a matter of minutes. Now, these steps are simple and will keep your house looking great throughout the week, but that does not mean to replace your in-depth weekly cleaning of the home with just these five habits.

Habit 1: Make your bed every morning! This is just a simple, yet important task to begin your day. By just making your bed, you are already improving your attitude from the every start of the day. Making your bed makes your room feel neater and more organized. A place that is organized can positively affect your mental state. Habit one seems simple enough! This is a habit that a single person can do or it is a habit that the whole family can join in on creating a positive environment for the entire family.

Habit 2: Take 5 minutes to walk around the house and pick up any clothes or shoes that are lying around. As simple as this is, it will go long ways to helping maintain order and neatness at your house. As a child, I can remember my mom always making us go through the house before leaving for school and putting our stuff away. I used to think it was pointless, but now as a homeowner myself, I find that I am constantly going through and picking up after myself and husband. I have also found that if I do it every day, it takes less time than waiting for the whole house to be cluttered. I have also realized that it lowers my stress level and my husbands. We can come home from work and just relax instead of having to straighten up the house for hours. So, take 5 minutes every day before work and simply do a sweep of the house putting away anything that is out of place.

Habit 3: Keep up laundry. This task sounds a lot easier said than done, but let me assure you, it is. When people think of doing laundry, they think of hours of washing and folding, but what if you made it a little easier on yourself. Do only one load of laundry a day. Simple, right? Your time-consuming chore has now become a mere natural habit you do once a day. This habit will also help you stay caught up with all of your dirty clothes. No more days wondering what you are going to wear because your laundry is already caught up and put up.

Habit 4: Keep your kitchen clean! So often after meals, we just throw the dishes in the sink and say we will work on cleaning up later, but then later comes and what would have been a 10-minute task has turned into an hour long cleaning process. Let me make it easy for, clean your kitchen as soon as you have finished your meal. Take the 10 minutes to save you the hour long chore. Not only are you saving time, but your house will feel cleaner and more organized. It will also help keep nasty smells from accumulating throughout your home. So, clean up the counter tops, load the dishwasher, and put up leftover foods.

Habit 5: Don’t let the mail pile up. As soon as you take it out of the mailbox, go through it. Throw away anything that is junk. File what is important, and pay the bills as soon as you see the invoice. This will help keep your mail from piling up and will neutralize clutter.

Make life easier for yourself and your household by implementing some of these habits. They will free you up to enjoy more time with friends and family. Not to mention, you won’t be scurrying around last minute trying to clean up for an unexpected guest. Make your life simple. Make your life confident. Enjoy your home again!
